Hempton Heights

Hempton Heights is a Cannabis friendly resort in Spavinaw Oklahoma.

Cannabis use is allowed in the rooms and anywhere on the property.

I had heard great things about it, so I entered a charity raffle with a stay at Hempton Heights as the grand prize.

And I won!

I had an eye on this place for a while, so I was super stoked to be able to stay 2-nights in their Doobie Duplex!

A few days before my reservation I received a welcome email that detailed the contactless check-in procedures, and scheduling spa services or meal delivery.

On the Friday of our reservation, we packed up, dropped off the kids, and headed out!

Check in time is 3p or after.

It took about an hour to get there from Tulsa.

Just before we got to the resort we stopped and ate at Carlos Montez Mexican Restaurant and Cantina for dinner. We walked through the bar that was attached to the restaurant and noticed some pool tables. It looked like a place that might have a night-scene if we were looking for something to do later.

The food was good and reasonably priced. The waitstaff was attentive, and you can't go wrong with a margarita. We settle our bill and drive up to Hempton Heights.

As we pull in the grounds look beautiful. We scope out our cabin, and go to park. We get out of the car and look around. There is a common area with a couple people grilling out. The cannabis leaf benches catch my eye as Jeff, one of the owners, walks up to help us. He is very friendly and tells us we can park closer to the cabin if we want. He also informs us that they light the bon-fire pass out stuff for smores at sunset.

We get into our cabin, and immediately notice the bed. There is a rolling tray with complementary papers, a lighter, and stickers! There is also a hand-written note, complementary water bottles and coffee. The room is small, but comfortable and clean! It has all the regular amenities; full bathroom, tv, fridge, microwave, and coffee pot. As well as an assortment of dishes.

When we arrived there was no trace of cannabis smell inside the room. That didn't last long ;)

We got settled in, and medicated on the deck attached to the cabin.

Then we decided to take a quick walk around the grounds to scope it all out. There is a lovely swimming pool and lounge area, basketball, volleyball, cornhole, swings, and hammock. We enjoyed ourselves on the swings for a while, it was a great place to chill and take a puff.

Not long after we got back to our cabin Jeff came around with the smores supplies. We went down to the fire and ate our smores. Another couple came out and we chatted for a while.

We learned that they had special needs children that have found effective treatment with cannabis. This was their first night away in a long time. It was refreshing to be in a place where cannabis is truly unstigmatized and regarded as a medicine.

We headed in for the evening and turned on the TV.

The bed was so comfortable that I was asleep in 20 minutes.

The next morning we woke up and headed into Disney, OK for some breakfast.

Disney is on the other side of the lake, it's kind of an interesting looking little town. We went to Red's Buffet to satisfy our hunger. It was set up much like a breakfast buffet at a hotel. Biscuits and gravy, pancakes, home-fries, bacon, and sausage. The food was... not bad, but a little lackluster, though I was just grateful to have a full belly. The staff was nice.

Before heading back to the resort we took a walk along the lake.

When we got back, we took a swim, hung out in the hammock, and then took a long nap. RELAXATION was the name of the game on this trip.

For dinner on this night we decided to use one of the provided charcoal grills and have hotdogs. We hit up Reasor's in Langley for supplies and went back to camp. We conversed with some other grillers, and hung around until smores time.

The next morning we took advantage of the complementary coffee in the room before we packed up and head out. Checkout was 11am.

Overall Hempton Heights is a great place to stay, relax, and medicate. The attention is in the small details in this place. Everything is clean and well taken care of. You can tell that they put a lot of heart into providing a one-of-a-kind experience for their customers.

If I could point out anything that was lacking it would be onsite food options. You have to arrange in advance for your meals, pack something to grill, or leave the resort to eat. They also have a great lounge area by the pool with what appears to be a bar. I would have loved for some kind of happy-hour or guided event.

That's ONLY if I'm nitpicking. It truly was a lovely restful stay and we will definitely be back.
